The others captured with Saddam Hussein were his half-brothers Watban and Barzan Ibrahim al-Tikriti, and his cousin Ali Hasan Majid al-Tikriti. Watban was the head of Saddam’s security detail and Barzan was the head of the Iraqi intelligence service. Hasan was a close advisor to Saddam and was responsible for much of the brutality during Saddam’s reign.<\/p>\n

The mission was executed by joint operations Task Force 121—an elite and covert joint special operations team, supported by the 1st Brigade Combat Team (led by Colonel James Hickey) of the 4th Infantry Division, commanded by Major General Raymond Odierno. The team was successful in capturing or killing a number of high-level al-Qaeda members, including Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, who was the leader of al-Qaeda in Iraq at the time.<\/p>\n
