No one knows for sure if North Korean leader Kim Jong Un can dunk a basketball, but it seems unlikely given his stature. Standing at only 5’7″, it would be a tall task for him to reach the 10-foot-tall basket. Even some of the greatest NBA players have trouble dunking the ball on a regulation-size hoop. However, Kim Jong Un is known for his love of basketball and has been photographed shooting hoops on several occasions. So who knows? Maybe with a little practice, he could get airborne and throw down a mean dunk.

No, he cannot.

What are North Korea’s weird basketball rules?

North Korea’s basketball rules are definitely different than what we’re used to in the States. Dunks are only worth 3 points, while a three-point shot is worth 4 points if it’s nothing but net. Also, all field goals made in the final three seconds of the game are worth 8 points. However, a point is deducted for every missed free throw.

In order to keep the game of basketball interesting, the North Koreans have implemented some unique rules. Slam dunks are now worth 3 points, 3 pointers are worth 4 points if they are nothing but net, and any field goal made in the last 3 seconds is worth 8 points. This should make for some exciting basketball games!
