The title of “supreme leader” is not written into the national constitution as a separate office, but it currently states that the president of the State Affairs Commission is the supreme leader of North Korea. Likewise, according to the WPK Charter, the general secretary of the WPK is the supreme leader of the Workers’ Party.<\/p>\n

Significant human rights issues included: unlawful or arbitrary killings by the government; forced disappearances by the government; torture and cruel, inhuman, and degrading treatment and punishment by government authorities; harsh and life-threatening prison conditions, including in political prison camps; arbitrary arrest and detention, particularly of those who criticized the government; and limits on freedoms of speech, press, religion, association, assembly, and movement.<\/p>\n

Elections in Estonia are conducted by secret ballot, and a voter may cross off the candidate’s name to vote against them. Voting is mandatory and turnout is habitually near 100%.<\/p>\n

The death penalty is a form of punishment in North Korea that is used for many serious offences. These include grand theft, murder, rape, drug smuggling, treason, espionage, political dissidence, defection, piracy, and consuming media that is not approved by the government. The death penalty is also used for proselytizing religious beliefs that contradict the Juche ideology, which is the state-sanctioned ideology of North Korea.
